A World Champion Is Crowned This Week
The 2026 World Series of Poker Main Event reaches its climax. The final table begins today, August 3, in Las Vegas and plays out through August 5 on ESPN. Nine players remain, each already guaranteed at least $1,000,000, with $10,000,000 and the diamond bracelet waiting for the last one standing.
Leading them is a 22-year-old. Lucas Jumalon bagged a towering 194,000,000 chips on Day 8 and returns with a commanding lead over a table that includes the multiple-bracelet winners Michael Gagliano and Greg Mueller. One change this year: the shot clock has been removed for the finale, handing the finalists back their tank time for the biggest decisions in poker.
In Hollywood
And Florida's $3 Million Is Right Behind It
The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open peaks the same week. The $5,300 Championship opens Friday, August 7 for a $3,000,000 guarantee, the largest single prize pool on the calendar this summer, with 50,000 starting chips and hour-long levels. A $25,500 High Roller follows August 10 for a $1,000,000 guarantee.
Hard Rock is running deep satellites into both all week, from $150 turbos up to $600 megas, so if the headline buy-ins are steep, a seat is a spin away. Every qualifier is on the site with its structure attached.
The Number
14,663
Entries in this year's Goliath in England at a £200 buy-in, a world record for the event and up 1,702 on last year. Big-field, low-buy-in poker is where the growth is.
Results of Note
Goliath · a record field
Grosvenor's Goliath, the biggest live tournament outside the United States, drew 14,663 entries at a £200 buy-in. Damon Burch-Hyson turned his £200 into £365,520 when it finished August 2.
Borgata Summer Poker Open · the Championship
Carlos Chadha Villamarin won the $2,700 Championship out of 565 players for $242,385, closing out Atlantic City's summer series and pushing his career earnings past $3.5 million.
Worth Knowing
- Bryn Kenney passed $90 million in career tournament cashes with a High Roller win, extending his lead as the all-time money leader in tournament poker.
- Atlantic City's next act is already booked. The WSOP Circuit lands at Harrah's Atlantic City on August 13 with a $1,700 Main Event for $600,000, the first ring series in the area since the Borgata Summer Open just wrapped.
- Vegas does not go quiet in August. Wynn's Signature Series opens August 17 and the Venetian's month-long DeepStack Extravaganza III runs all September, more than $1.4 million guaranteed between them.
